Tucson's Public Art
Flower Bus Stop

Title: Unknown, by Unknown

Location: Northwest corner of Pennington St. and Church Ave.

Details: Copper (Bronze?) SunTran bus stop.

He Said:

The stamens appear to be parts from the ray gun used in the film classic "Zombies from Mars," and perhaps the twining vines and large flowers are enough to remind one of "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Pretending to be part of an alien infused science fiction plot will make the time fly as you wait for the bus. When you step on board, just be sure the driver and the other passangers are earthlings.

She Said:

Hmmm, I don't believe I'd have imagined things quite the same as my partner with regard to this particular bus stop sculpture! Not that there's anything wrong with his interpretation; it's just different. These large flowers (there are several of them adorning this bus stop shelter) help bring a feeling of nature, however fanciful, to the downtown landscape, relieving what would otherwise be a fairly utilitarian structure. Art is all around us; we just have to look for it.
